I personally know many of you but for those that I do not, my name is Raymond Butler and I am running for your SBA Recording Secretary. I was born and raised in Staten Island, NY and lived there most of my life. I graduated from Moore High School in 1993, and then attended both CUNY-CSI and John Jay College, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and an Associate degree in Police Science, respectively. Today, I am happily married and a proud father of two sons with another on the way, living in Bergen County, NJ.

I began my police career in 1998 with NYCPD, assigned to the 72 Pct. in Brooklyn. In July 2002, I was fortunate enough to be hired by the PAPD. After graduating from the 104th Academy class, I was assigned to the PABT for nearly 2 years. I then spent time at both the NIA and PATH police commands before entering ESU in 2005, spending nearly 11 years there.

In January of 2016, I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Initially, I was assigned to the GWB and later accepted a transfer to the PATH Police Command, where I have been working since July of 2016.

I am a proud member of the SBA and have not missed a single meeting or any function open to the membership since I was promoted. Currently, I’m preparing to return to school at Fairleigh Dickinson University to obtain my master’s degree and complete a minor in Spanish.

Through all of this professional experience, it was in union business that I truly found my niche. In the Fall of 2009, I won my first election for PBA delegate for the SOD unit, was successful again in re-election for the same title three years later and once again in the fall of 2015. I must admit that in my nineteen-year career,  my time spent as a union representative was some of the most rewarding and enjoyable work of all. In SOD, I had the pleasure of working with some of the finest men and women to wear our uniform and enjoyed the privilege of representing those same officers on the PBA Executive Board. To say that I considered that responsibility an honor is an understatement.

Now, I am extraordinarily eager to return to union business and to put my experience and knowledge to work for you. I consider it a privilege to be elected by one’s peers and to be chosen to represent their interest in the workplace. As I hope you can see, I take this job very seriously and take pride in dedicating myself to do the best job possible. I hope to have the chance to do that for you for the next three years as your Recording Secretary.
